MANITOBA SCORES GOLD MEDALS AT THE MACCABI GAMES:
The Rady Jewish Community Center recently sent a team of 10 athletes to compete at the JCC Maccabi Games in St. Paul, Minnesota August 6 - 12, 2005. Two of the athletes, Daniel Derbitsky and Mitchell Billinkoff, competed in table tennis. Don Kokan was the coach and chaperone of the boys while in St. Paul.
Both Daniel and Mitchell are training with George Damianov, Provincial Team Coach for the Manitoba Table Tennis Association and had previously just finished representing Manitoba at the Canadian Junior Championships in British Columbia July 26-28th.
Daniel competed in the under 17 years age category. He won a Bronze medal in the singles event-two Israeli athlete's took home the gold and silver medals. Daniel also won the Silver medal in the doubles event. His partner was a girl from New Jersey, USA who was moved up from the under 15 category. The two Israeli's again teamed up to win the Gold medal for this category. Congratulations Daniel on your medals!
Mitchell competed in the under 15 category and took the Gold in both the singles and the doubles main events. Mitchell played well and succeeded in defeating his main adversary from Israel. Mitchell was Winnipeg's top athlete at the JCC Maccabi Games this year. Congratulations Mitchell!

The JCC Maccabi Games are held in 5 cities each year. St. Paul, Minnesota had a total of 1500 athletes, with 25 athletes in the sport of table tennis. Athletes present represented the USA, Canada, Venezuela, UK, Poland, and Israel. Table Tennis had athletes from the USA, Canada, and Israel.
